A free pedestrian safety workshop comes to Del Mar's Civic Center Town Hall at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29.
The one-hour session, called TREDWise, will be led by California Highway Patrol Officer Jared Grieshaber. He will cover traffic rules, common pedestrian hazards and defensive walking strategies, according to the city's event listing.
The City of Del Mar and Del Mar Community Connections are co-hosting the workshop.
TREDWise was developed by the Transportation Research and Education for Driving Safety Center (TREDS) at UC San Diego. The center includes experts in public health, medical engineering, law enforcement and neuroscience, according to a city newsflash. Its mission is to prevent injury and death from traffic crashes and improve safe behavior on roadways.
Grieshaber's session will focus on helping walkers recognize personal risk factors and stay alert on Del Mar's downtown streets and city walkways. The workshop is free. Registration is open on the city's event page.
