Santa Fe Christian (SFC) forced five turnovers and scored two defensive touchdowns in a 35-7 win over King/Drew on Thursday, Oct. 1, improving to 7-0 on the season.

Two days later, top-ranked Carlsbad handed Torrey Pines its second loss, 30-7, in the Falcons' home Avocado West League opener on Saturday, Oct. 3.

In the Week 7 San Diego County Top 20, Carlsbad held the No. 1 spot, SFC sat at No. 3 and Torrey Pines at No. 10, according to The Coast News.

Eagles extend streak to 17

The win in Solana Beach extended SFC's regular-season winning streak to 17 games dating to last season, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Entering the game, the Eagles had outscored opponents 299-34 across their first six contests.

Head coach Jon Wallace, who has surpassed 100 career victories at the school, coaches alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Drew Brees, who serves as SFC's quarterbacks coach. Brees' son Baylen is a senior wide receiver on the roster, according to the school's athletics site.

SFC's defense dominated the first half, allowing just three first downs and picking off three passes. Linebacker Charlie Stover returned one of those interceptions 26 yards for a pick-six.

"I had coverage in the flat, and I honestly was ready for the hit with the quarterback throwing off his back foot, but I saw the ball right in my face …" Stover said.

Sophomore defensive tackle Zander Vulakh added a second pick-six in the second half, intercepting King/Drew quarterback Damico Martin and returning it for a touchdown. Junior quarterback Dax Labrum, a Cornell commit, and running back Brady Berg led the offense. The Eagles finished with five forced turnovers in all.

Falcons fall in league opener

Carlsbad arrived at 5-0, having allowed just 39 points all season behind quarterback Antonio D'Alessandro and running back Darian Webb, according to a pre-game preview in the Union-Tribune.

The Lancers beat Torrey Pines 35-3 a year ago. Saturday's 30-7 result followed a similar pattern.

No individual statistics or player quotes from the Torrey Pines side were available. Head coach Scott Ashby's squad dropped to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in Avocado West, according to MaxPreps.
