Families can meet live animal ambassadors from Helen Woodward Animal Center at the Del Mar Library on Saturday, Oct. 3, as part of a monthly wildlife series organized by the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy.
The Creekside Critters program runs from 11 a.m. to noon at the library, 1309 Camino Del Mar. The San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy, or SDRVC, said on its social media accounts Sept. 24 that spots are filling fast.
The monthly series brings kids and families face-to-face with animals native to the San Dieguito River Valley, according to the conservancy's program page. Each session features a different local species. Past and future sessions rotate among reptiles, raptors, mammals and insects, with hands-on learning led by local experts.
The Oct. 3 session will feature speakers and animal ambassadors from Helen Woodward Animal Center, the Rancho Santa Fe nonprofit whose education programs include live animal presentations and hands-on interactions such as handling, petting and feeding, according to the center's website.
The San Diego County Library event listing describes the October installment as a chance to "get up close and personal with animal ambassadors from the Helen Woodward Animal Center." Registration is available at sdrvc.org/events.
SDRVC hosts a 40th-anniversary River Valley Fest fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at La Valle Coastal Club in Rancho Santa Fe, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. The Del Mar Library also marks the 30th anniversary of its current building with a celebration from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
