The Rotary Club of Del Mar held its annual Hawaiian-themed fundraiser at Powerhouse Park on Friday, Sept. 25, drawing community members to a sunset celebration along the coast.
The event, called "Making Waves That Impact," featured a luau catered by Islanders Luau, hula entertainment, live and silent auctions, and a signature welcome cocktail, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Proceeds supported five causes: Workshop for Warriors, a San Diego nonprofit that trains veterans in advanced manufacturing; Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego, based on Lomas Santa Fe Drive in Solana Beach; Feeding San Diego; the Guatemala Literacy Project; and other community and youth programs.
Co-chairs Michael Clark, the club's president-elect, and Susan Maronde, a past Rotarian of the Year, led the planning effort. Jim Kohn and Laura and Carl Johnson also welcomed guests at the park.
